Anyone that has experienced anxiety and panic attacks will tell you that they are no joke and are not simply a bit of anxiety like the typical person deals with. Anxiety and panic attacks happen when panic or anxiety is out of line with the situation at hand and there are not coping skills to deal with the stress or fear. Many people feel dizzy, breathe very quickly, cry, shake, or even black out when they have attacks.

Panic attack disorders or panic disorders are very common around the world, and in the U.S. alone almost 20% of the adult population is affected by a form of this mental illness. There are different types of anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, social anxiety and specific phobias. In general, women are affected by anxiety disorders more often than men.
